Bill Would Deny Federal Handouts to Traffickers

Proposed legislation includes smuggling, transporting, and harboring traffickers.

Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee was joined by Senators Katie Britt of Alabama and Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi in introducing the Stop Taxpayer Funding of Traffickers Act. This legislation would ban anyone who has been charged with drug or human trafficking at America’s international borders from receiving benefits. Those benefits include welfare, Social Security, public housing, any entitlement, health or disability benefits, and would bar them from receiving contracts, loans, commercial or personal licenses, and federal grants.

Senator Blackburn stated, “This legislation ensures that hardworking American taxpayers—already crushed by inflation—are not forced to fund the lifestyles of offenders who are making our country more dangerous.”

If a suspect is later acquitted or charges are dropped, they would be eligible for back pay or benefits under the bill.

“For two years, President Biden’s open border policies have emboldened the cartels and caused human trafficking to grow to a $13 billion industry,” Senator Blackburn stated. “We cannot continue to incentivize this blatant criminal activity.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For U.S. senators as they seek to increase penalties for drug and human trafficking.
  • For wisdom for members of Congress as they endeavor to legislate solutions to criminal activity.
